Established in 2008, the Sierra Nevada Border Collie Club was created to serve the interests of Border Collies and their owners in the Northern Nevada area. With a club terrority spanning from Sparks down south to Wellington, the club hosts a variety of meetings, events, fun days and educational booths for all dog lovers in the area.

The club is currently seeking fully licensure with the American Kennel Club and as of Febuary 2010 was approved for Sanction A status. In 2010 the club will offer two A/OA matches, one Herding A Match and an Agility A Match.

Bah Ram Ewe Fun Run Recap

This was the first herding fun run that SNBCC has offered. The event was an overwhelming success. Despite the threat of snow, 25 dogs showed up to participate in the instinct testing and practice runs and judging education day. While the day was mostly filled with border collies, a Samoyed and Australian Shepherd also showed up to take part in the festivities. The club handed out membership forms to some interested parties and EVERY single dog was able to turn on and work the stock. The club will be looking at hosting a similar event later in the year.

Special "THANKS" goes out to Shinning Ranch and Stockdogs 4 Ewe for providing a facility and expertise for the event.

Bah Ram Ewe February Fun Runs

Sierra Nevada Border Collie Club will be a hosting a herding fun day on Saturday, February 6, 2010. The festivities will include instinct testing, practice course work and learning how to judge a herding run. This event is open to herding breeds with pre-approval from event coordinator.

Dog Days of Summer Recap

The weather was great Saturday at Fuji Park and the Cottonwood was flying at the 2009 Northern Nevada Dog Days of Summer event. We had the best signs at the park advertising our dog wash and pet photo session thanks to Kathy creative hands.

We washed setters, retrievers, aussies and border collies. We photographed corgis and labs, owners and kids, doxies, terriers, a mixed breed and more..... and of course BORDER COLLIES!

The dogs were sorrowfully in the tubs, but the owners were happy with their squeeky clean pup-pups.

Our 1st B-OB Match was a B L A S T!

The club hosted it’s first AKC B-OB Match today and it was a blast! We had 22 different dogs entered with of course the Border Collies in the conformation ring and we had an eclectic variety in the obedience ring from Springer Spaniels, Doberman Pinscher, Irish Setters, Aussies, and even some Saint Bernards.

We had the best judges volunteer their time. Jeanne Hagen-Santiago of Celestria Border Collies carefully judged very young puppies to experienced veterans in our conformation ring. While Patty Buchanan worked tirelessly to judge the variety of dogs in the obedience ring. We want to give both ladies and huge shout out of appreciation for their work. You two are the BEST!

The club made $214 on this match. We now have one more that we need to do in six month before we can advance to A status with AKC. Special thanks go to members Jamie J., Judy M. and Kathy E. for getting their early to help set up, worked it and then tear it all down. You guys ROCK!

Agility Fun Day: More Information

We're very excited about our first Agility Fun Day and we are all looking forward to introducing new dogs and people to this fun sport.

If you have registered for our Introduction to Agility, here is some additional information for you.

Things to bring with you:

4-6 foot leash
Flat buckle type collar ONLY (no choke chains, pinch or e-collars ALLOWED!)
Water for yourself
Your dog’s favorite treats (Recommend: soft bite-size treats such as hot dog, string cheese, liver, Bil-Jac, etc) AND favorite toys. (no hard treats like milkbones broken into peices)
A hungry dog (Recommend: Do not feed your dog his/her morning meal; it’s easier to keep them focused if they are a bit hungry)

Agility Run Thrus and Intro To Agility Equipment

Sierra Nevada Border Collie Club is hosting an Agility Fun Day, plus an Intro to Agility on March 7th in Minden, NV!

The Fun Runs will include an excellent level standard course with a novice course nested within it as an alternative for less experienced dogs. This event is open to dogs of any breed or mix breed. No pre-registry will occur for this event, only "day of" sign ups.

Date: Saturday, March 7th

Times: 10am - 2pm
Costs: $5 per dog per run or $15 per dog for unlimited runs

First Fun Match & HIT

The club's first event was a huge success. The weather was a bit chilly, but the 3/4 Circle Ranch/Sheep Camp lit a fire to help warm our bones. They were the best hostesses anyone could ask for. Thanks Sue, Sandy, & Terry for letting us use your facilities!

We had a bigger turn out than we expected. The day was very well organized by Kathy E, which got us all finished in record time.

Thanks to everyone that participated, and especially all our club members who helped! An extra special Thank You goes to Lisa, Ladonna, and Sue for judging/testing for us. You were great!!!
